Mahaffey Theater was opened in 1950. At that time, the theater was part of the Bayfront Center. The museum was soon renovated and the size was hugely increased. About 20 millions were spent to renovate the museum. Ballrooms, auditoriums, guest amenity areas were added to the Mahaffey Theater. The 2030 seated auditorium, elegant velvet seats, extensive three story glass curtain wall are some of the exquisite features of the Mahaffey Theater.

At this theater an annual program is held every year. At this program, classical music is mostly played by musicians, and instrumentalists. The Florida Orchestra, which was founded in 1968, performs every 4 months at this museum. The Orchestra from St. Petersburg and Tampa area merged to form the Florida Orchestra. This group performs everything ranging from classical music to pop songs. Dance programs are also held at this museum.
