Visitors can see most animals in one of eight habitat areas, including:
- Wallaroo Station - Specially designed for families, this interactive area features Australian milieu serving as home to koalas, wallabies, cockatoos, bats, New Guinea singing dogs, kookaburras and more. There is also a water play area for kids.
- Asian Gardens and Sulawest Aviary - This area provides visitors with great opportunities to have close contact with many rare and endangered animals like leopards and bears.
- Free Flight Aviaries - Enter a sub-tropic rain forest by visiting this habitat. At this area, guests can see nature's colors in full bloom like red-legged honeycreeper, the purple swamp hen and the blue bellied roller. Additionally, there are also peaceful waterfalls and river running through this area.
- Florida Boardwalk - Roam around the boardwalk and admire a variety of Florida's animals. From land, sea to sky, you will find delight surprises on all the amazing creatures that make Florida Home.
- Florida Manatee and Aquatic Center - In this habitat, visitors will discover Florida's beloved and endangered manatee and various snakes such as Southern Copperhead and Cottonmouth as well as other animals like moray eel and frogs.
- Primate World - Stroll along the Primate World and see orangutans, chimpanzees, mandrills, marmosets and other primates flourishing in this habitat.
- Birds of Prey - Known as raptors, birds of prey housed in this area include great horned owl, king vulture, Mississippi kite and more. They will make wonderful debuts in the daily Spirits of the Sky show.
- Safari Africa and Ituri Forest - Visit the zoo's newest addition and discover some of the finest natural wildlife at close hand. Patrons will see elephants, zebras, giraffes, warthogs, white rhinos and more in this area.

If you choose to drive to the zoo, figure out the driving directions to the Lowry Park Zoo before starting your engine. The following are directions to the zoo offered to make your journey a bit easier.
1) From the east (Orlando & Atlantic Coast) - If you are driving from the east, take I-4 west to I-275 north to exit 48 (Sligh Avenue).
2) From the north - Driving visitors coming from the north are suggested to take I-75 south to I-275 south to exit 48 (Sligh Avenue).
3) From the south - For visitors departing from the south, it is recommended to take I-75 north to I-4 west to I-275 north to exit 48 (Sligh Avenue).
4) From the west (Gulf Beaches) - If coming from the west, you should take I-275 north to exit 48 (Sligh Avenue).
5) From Tampa International Airport - If you are traveling from Tampa International Airport, set out towards George J Bean Parkway and turn left onto George J Bean Parkway. Then take ramp right for W Spruce Street towards Tampa. Continue onto W Spruce Street towards Tampa. While on W Spruce Street, keep straight onto W Columbus Drive / CR-587 south. Afterwards, bear left onto US-92 / SR-600 / N Dale Mabry Highway. Continue onto SR-580 / SR-597 / N Dale Mabry Highway and bear right on W Lambright Street. Keep straight until you are on Sligh Avenue.
