
The Tampa Museum of Art: Lighting up Your Tour in Downtown Tampa
The Tampa Museum of Art is one of the major attractions in the city of Tampa. It is situated in Downtown Tampa and is dedicated to art works belonging mostly to 20th century America. It also houses specimens from Roman, Etruscan and Greek classical art. The museum was opened for public in 1979.
The museum operates between 11am and 7pm from Monday through Wednesday and Friday, from 11 to 5 during the weekend and from 11 to 9 on Thursdays. The admission fee for adults is $10, for seniors and military personnel is $7.50 and for students is $5.
The museum has a vast collection of contemporary and antique pieces of art and sculpture. The Joseph Veach Noble Collection forms the primary focus of the Greek and Roman Antiquities. The painting collection of the museum is huge with 393 works by eminent artists like Alma Thomas, Purvis Young, and Ralph Goings.
The highlights of the Contemporary Sculpture collection are Cranberry Seaform Set along with Green Lip Wrap by Dale Chihuly and Woman Leaning on a Column by Jacques Lipchitz. The photography collection includes several photographs by prominent photographers like Chuck Close, Berenice Abbott, Cindy Sherman and Clyde Butcher.
Different types of exhibitions are organized in the Museum of Art. American Impressionist Exhibition, Photographs from 80s Exhibition and Musical Lines Exhibitions are all held in the museum. It also provides art classes to aspiring artists and art education programs. The Art Spot and the Summer Art Camp imparts education on art. Tampa Museum of Art also plays host to several art and fashion events.
