Raymond James Stadium officially opened its gates on September 20, 1998. The multi-purpose football stadium unveiled some of the most innovative features for a sports venue to the world. It instantly became widely known as the "The Crown Jewel of the NFL". Also referred to as "Ray Jay" or "The New Sombrero", the stadium is home of NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the NCAA's South Florida Bulls football team.

Raymond James Stadium incorporates stunning modern architectural designs and groundbreaking innovations with fan-friendly elements to present the most comfortable and exciting game-day experiences for guests. The stadium has a seating capacity of 65,878 and it can be expanded to 75,000 for some special events. The seating includes 12,000 club seats and 195 luxury suites, offering access to air-conditioned and beautifully appointed club lounges.

The sports venue is greatly characterized by the 103-foot, 43-ton steel-and-concrete replica pirate ship. The ship is used to fire soft-rubber footballs and confetti when the Bucs scores points or enters the red zone of the other team. Another recognizable feature of the stadium is the turf. Raymond James Stadium features the best turf in the NFL. The evaluation is based on a 2004 biannual players' survey.

The football stadium is not limited to regular games. Many annual events are also hosted at the stadium.
