Visiting Henry B Plant Museum in Tampa: A Feast for Your Eyes and Soul
Opened in the year 1974 this museum was actually the Tampa Bay Hotel built by Henry Plant himself. Henry was a railroad tycoon who personally financed the building of the hotel spread over 6 acres at the cost of an unheard amount of a quarter million in the year 1891.
The hotel rooms were the first to be electrified in the entire state of Florida. Featuring the best in class and the latest at that time this was a luxury hotel that was much ahead of its time and one of its kinds. The current building houses the Henry B Plant Museum to carry on the legacy of this railroad and hotel pioneer. The hotel had grounds that spread over 150 acres entirely and had wonderful gardens, a golf course, play grounds, auditoriums adding up to a total of over 20 buildings in its premises.
Some of the upcoming exhibitions in the museum are the "Strolling in perfect paradise", and the photography exhibition happening in the months of November and December. Places you should visit while coming to the museum are The Grand Hall, The Garden and Furnishings, The Parlor Suite, and The Spinning Girl. This museum gives you a unique insight into the Victorian times and opulent lifestyle that was so common at the time.
Visitor's fees are $10, $7 and $5 for adults, students and seniors, children below 12 years respectively. You must also not miss the Victorian Christmas Stroll that is held annually. It is closed on Mondays from January to November and a few other important holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
